OUR MISSION for this collaboration:

RECOVERY SUPPORT & COMFORT

"One of the most overlooked parts of recovery kept showing up in the smallest but most constant way: the surgical bras. The ones I was sent home with from the hospital felt like an afterthought—uncomfortable, poorly designed, digging into already sensitive areas, and offering little real support." - KELLY

ISSUES WITH THE CURRENT DESIGNS:

MASTECTOMY BRAS

"They are all cheaply made with velcro and material that was so uncomfortable. At a time when everything in your body is tender and vulnerable, you’re asked to wear something that makes you feel worse, not better." - KELLY

After discussing with Kelly and reviewing samples of the surgical recovery bras she has been given in the past, it's clear this product category is forgotten about. Improper fabrics and uncomfortable elastics make the poor designs significantly worse. Surgical recovery is even more important than an everyday bra design. As an expert bra designer in technically complex garments, I can immediately see many areas for improvement in Mastectomy Recovery Bras. This category also can extend to those who are recovering from implant or explant surgery as well as breast reductions or lifts. We can do much better and I am dedicating my time to making this happen. - AMANDA

Our Mastectomy Bra Design Collaboration:

How are we improving the design of Mastectomy Recovery Bras?

Amanda is using her experience as a Maternity Bra designer and creating a custom design for surgical recovery. The fabrics and elastics are already proven to be a wonderful upgrade in the maternity industry, this is exactly what is lacking from surgical recovery. We are removing all scratchy fabric and velcro and replacing with soft and supportive material selections. The design will incorporate innovative drain holders on the bra instead of a separate attachment, and they will prevent drains from digging into the skin. Kelly and Amanda are combining their expertise and working together to create the perfect bra design.

Are we testing our surgical recovery bra design?

Kelly is currently recovering from her most recent explant breast surgery. Amanda designed the first prototype of this collaboration and sent to Kelly to wear for her recovery. We are testing the design in real time to ensure it performs exactly the way we want it to for a patient in surgical recovery. We are sharing the development process with you and welcome all ideas and suggestions from survivors! This design is a labor of love for the survivor community.

When will this recovery bra design be released?

We are actively looking for grant and community funding for this project. Both Kelly and Amanda are small business owners volunteering their time and resources to design this style, but they need access to additional funding to afford the inventory of the first production run of the style. We hope to acquire the necessary funding in 2026 so we can bring this project to life soon!

How can you help us with this mission?

Sneak preview

"As a survivor who has spent months in poorly made recovery bras, I would love to have this option to gift to newly diagnosed women starting treatment. I often deliver a bag locally that contains all sorts of recovery items for women; a beautiful and functional bra from Davin & Adley would be the perfect addition." - KELLY
