FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
When should I buy a nursing bra?
If your current bras feel uncomfortable, it’s time to switch! Many moms like to purchase at least 1-2 nursing bras during pregnancy to wear for comfort (especially in the 2nd–3rd trimester when regular bras feel tight). Others wait until the last few weeks to order before baby arrives. It's at good ideas to have at least 1 nursing and pumping bra packed in your hospital bag before delivery so you are prepared for breastfeeding, no matter how it goes! A great choice is to purchase an all in one maternity nursing and pumping bra that can be worn for longer than just 9 months. Our favorite option is a cami style bra!
How many nursing bras do I need?
Most moms find 3 nursing bras is a good number to start with: one to wear, one in the wash, and one ready to go. If you find yourself not having the time to wash your favorite nursing bras quick enough with your new baby, you can always stock up with nursing bra bundles. Quality nursing and pumping bras can last you several years so it's a worthwhile investment for your breastfeeding journey.
What’s the difference between a nursing bra and a pumping bra?
A nursing bra lets you easily feed your baby by pulling down from the neckline or unclipping a panel to expose the breast, while a pumping bra is meant to hold breast pump flanges in place hands-free. Some bras (like ours 😉) do both! Stop changing in and out of a different bra every time you need to pump and change over to a combo nursing and pumping bra.
Should I wear underwire bras when breastfeeding?
No, we highly recommend that you do NOT wear underwires when breastfeeding! During pregnancy your breast tissue will change constantly and a poorly fitting wire bra can cause breast trauma (ouch!) and even worse, breast infections like mastitis from improper fit. Wireless nursing bras and camis are designed for both comfort and to grow and expand with your changing breast tissue. Our favorite style to reduce the risk of clogged ducts is linked here!
Can I sleep in a nursing bra?
Yes! Many moms need to sleep in a nursing bra with reusable nursing pads to prevent leaking breastmilk overnight. We love a soft, stretchy nursing bra for overnight comfort and easy feeding but even better when it's a combo nursing and pumping bra for that middle of the night pump session! It's an added bonus the bra straps are adjustable in the front so you can increase the for times when you feel engorged!
What size nursing bra should I buy while pregnant?
Your size will change from pregnancy through postpartum. A well-designed nursing bra has stretch and room to grow, but we always recommend checking your chest and underbust measurements. If you are an A-D cup, our standard sizing should be a good fit for you. If you are a DD cup+, you may need our busty sizing. We also carry plus size nursing bras in 1X-4X. IF you don't know what size nursing bra to purchase, please contact our fit experts for help with selecting the best fit for you! You don't want to guess your size and be stuck with a bra that doesn't fit. Book our FREE bra sizing consultations for expert help today!
How do I know if my nursing bra fits correctly?
Your nursing bra should feel supportive but not too tight like it's digging into your chest and underarm area. You want to be able to breathe comfortably and feel like there is room to expand when your milk comes in. A good rule is if your chest is being compressed flat at the nipple area, it's too tight. You can always ask our bra expert in our FREE bra sizing consultations to review photos of your bra fit on you if you need a second opinion!
Do pumping bras work with all breast pumps? (Spectra, Willow, Elvie, Medela, Momcozy, Eufy, Lansinoh, Baby Buddha, Motif etc.)
Not all pumping bras are designed to hold all styles of breast pumps. If you are pumping with breast pump flanges that stick away from your body with tubes and bottles, you will want to look for a pumping bra for flanges with slits to hold them in place. If you are pumping with a cup shaped breast pump that is all in one with the motor and no tubing, then you are looking for a pumping bra for wearable breast pumps. If you are using both styles of pumps, yes you can find a pumping bra to fit both wearable breast pumps and flanges, but it is rare to find. We however specialize in combo pumping bras. Our best selling pumping bra is linked here!
