Nursing & Pumping Bra FAQs

What Is the Difference Between a Nursing Bra and a Pumping Bra?

nursing bra is designed for breastfeeding directly at the breast and typically features a clip-down or pull down cup design for easy access. A pumping bra is designed to hold breast pump flanges in place for hands-free pumping. While some styles require you to purchase separate bras for nursing and pumping, many modern designs function as both nursing and hands-free pumping bras, allowing you to nurse and pump without changing throughout the day. We highly recommend the Davin & Adley Amelia Cami for moms who both nurse and pump.

Can a Bra Be Used for Both Nursing and Pumping?

Yes, many bras are now designed to work as both nursing and pumping bras. These styles combine easy breastfeeding access with built-in support for hands-free pumping, so you can nurse or pump without switching bras. A combo nursing and pumping bra is a great choice for any mom that is breastfeeding and doing a combination of both nursing at the breast and hands-free pumping.

What Size Nursing or Pumping Bra Should I Get?

The best nursing or pumping bra size depends on your current measurements and stage of breastfeeding. Most women experience increases in both band and cup size during pregnancy and postpartum, so choosing a bra with stretchy fabric and flexible sizing is key. If you’re between sizes, we offer free bra sizing consultations to help you decide!

How Many Nursing and Pumping Bras Do You Need?

Most moms find that having 3 to 5 nursing and pumping bras is a good choice. This allows you to rotate between bras while others are being washed and ensures you always have a clean, comfortable option available. If you are pumping frequently, having a few extra hands-free pumping bras can make your daily routine much easier. If you are looking to stock up, shop our bra bundles!

Do Nursing Bras Work with Wearable Breast Pumps?

Some nursing bras can work with wearable breast pumps, but most are not designed to provide the correct support and stability for a wearable pump. Traditional nursing bras are made for easy breastfeeding access, but they may not offer enough compression to hold wearable pumps in place during use. We do not recommend using plain sports bras either for your wearables. These type of bras are not designed to accommodate the size of the breast pump and can put too much pressure on the pump and breast tissue.

Bras specifically designed for wearable breast pumps are the better option, as they provide the structure needed to support the large pump capacity while still allowing for easy nursing access. We highly recommend the Amelia Cami by Davin & Adley for all wearable breast pumps and collection cups.

Nursing & Pumping Bras To Simplify Your Breastfeeding Routine

Finding a bra that works for both nursing and pumping shouldn’t be complicated. At Davin & Adley, we design our bras to do both. Nurse, pump, or switch between the two without changing your bra throughout the day.

Our nursing and pumping bras are made with soft, flexible fabrics that adapt to your breast size and provide comfortable, wire-free support. Many of our styles are designed to work with traditional flanges and wearable breast pumps, so you can switch back and forth between any breast pump you own.

Whether you’re in the early days of breastfeeding or settling into your postpartum routine, these bras are made to support you through it all with comfort, versatility, and real-life functionality.
